Just In Time Math for CA Community Colleges

Welcome to Just In Time Math for CA Community Colleges.  This resource and learning platform was co-developed with CA Community Colleges math faculty to serve as a free resource to quickly identify students’ strengths and gaps in math learning before and when they start your transfer level math class or other classes that require specialized math skills.

As part of a wider initiative, funded by the CA Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, called the CA Corequisite Initiative, Just In Time Math is a math support system used widely across our community college system.  This includes as a curriculum and instructional support for corequisite courses, in Math learning centers, summer programs and for math dependent courses like the sciences and Career Education Pathways.

What is Just in Time Math?

1. Corequisite Math

Community colleges play a vital role in providing accessible education, but existing college math courses often don’t address the learning gaps and provide the individualized support needs of many students. This leads to high drop-outs and poor outcomes.

Just in Time Math offers a solution designed to support students who need to refresh their foundational math knowledge. It unlocks granular, individualized insights into gaps in learning that instructors can use for targeted guidance. When used as a corequisite (companion course) to college-level math courses or as a tool in tutoring centers, Just in Time Math enables personalized, targeted support to bridge math skill gaps driving improved outcomes.

WorkReady Math

Students in Career Education and those aiming for technical certification often require specific math competencies for their chosen fields. Multiple, broad math courses can be overwhelming and often serve as a hurdle for learners completing their credentials.

Through the power of AI, Just in Time Math customizes math assessments and learning resources to applications relevant to specific careers. This leads to better engagement and improved career outcomes.

It allows delivery of just the right math competencies, customized for specific occupations such as nursing, auto tech, and construction - WorkReady Math. This approach improves the chances of students completing their credentials and licensure requirements to enter the workforce.

3. Math for Sciences

Math is an important foundation for many courses and disciplines in the sciences. However, learners in STEM pathways often don’t understand the relevance of math to their subject areas.

Just in Time Math customizes the right math competencies to the requirements of the appropriate STEM pathway and helps students learn math in the context of their discipline.
